Really love the work of Mika Mäkinen (Art Director at the Great Apes Ltd) – At times feeling both digital and handcrafted textured (absolutely love the creased paper in “Lake”), and with a feel of both graphic design and illustration through fantastic, quirky collages and textures, and considered colour, compositions and typography. Especially love the surreal mixture of collaged photography (from modern to quite vintage-looking images) and digitised images. Definitely worth checking out his portfolio here.
Very interesting!
Love these — fascinating work. On my way to check out more of the portfolio now…
u r fascinating too.
I love these!
Very iconic. I like the rather muted colors.
Very interesting style, bit reminiscent of 60s sci-fi book covers. Thanks for telling us about this work.
very inspiring, thank you!
These are stunning. Just the sort of unique beauty I love seeing in graphic design. I am really into combining photography with graphic elements. Mika Mäkinen does this brilliantly! Thanks for sharing this designer’s work!

As a young man I attended the School of Art and Design in New York in the mid 50′s. This blog brought to me a new vision, I never had before in the appreciation of the Graphic Arts. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Great stuff.

They look great! Especially love the 4 and 5.
lovely……amazing…..
If Pink Floyd were still performing and releasing albums like some 40 years ago, I bet they would pick stuff from this guy for their covers .. Same with Massive Attack .. Thumb up for the lake. In a perfect world, people with the impulse of writing “I love that” or “simply amazing” would refrain from posting their pointless comments. I like Grumpa Joe’s honest one ..

WOW!! you are seriously really talented!! I love the pictures!! Even though I own a blog about writing, I like to see what people are doing in photography and other art stuff.
Thanks for posting this – it has really given us inspiration – particularly the use of ‘new’ old technology. Ive recently seen some graphic work which used alphabets re processed through an old VHS player which has a similar feeling to this work. We mIght even think about accessorising some of our artist bears with Super8 cameras and old style computers!
